Hotel Cubo

Advisor, and  an easy walk to the the  Old City, the Slovenian Museum, Parliament, Tivoli Park, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Ljubljana Farmer’s Market, many cafes and shopping venues.  The hotel is art deco style, recently restored inside and out.  The tour starts that evening with a celebration at the Gostilna na Gradu at  Ljubljana Castle from where you view the panorama of the city.  One of  the city’s newest inns known for its Slow Food and old traditional recipes, the Gostilna na Gradu (Inn at the Castle) is easily reached by the new funicular railway at Krek Station.

History of Funicular Railway:  Dr. Ivan Hribar, the Mayor of the Ljubljana, wrote a letter to the Austro-Hungarian authorities, those in power at the time, in 1897 with specific recommendations to promote tourism:  “The Castle would have many visitors, particularly on summer evenings, since the view from these premises is charmingly beautiful and since the existing shadowy courtyard could be well used to attract visitors who will pay ten kreutzers or a smaller fare if only we build an elevator to the top.”   However, his initiative only came to be realized  in 2006.

Our guest of honor at the reception will be traditional food expert, Dr. Janez Bogataj, author of over 40 books and articles about Slovenian traditional foods and folkways.

If you are coming to Ljubljana by rail, bus or from another airport, arrangements will be made for you to join the group in Ljbubljana at Hotel Cubo.
