feature,”Nature” on  PBS TV stations tonight at 8.00 PM.   Check your local listing to see if you can view this program.

Horse Lovers and those who admire horses are familiar with the magnificent white stallions who perform in the Vienna Riding School. These horses were originally trained for warfare in the arts of “dressage.”  Some of the most famous jumps are called “Airs Above the Ground” where the horses actually leave the ground.

Lippizaner horses originated in Lipica (Lipizza in Italian) in Slovenia, which was part of the Austrian Empire from around 1200 to 1918.  These horses perform

all over the world  today as well as in Lipica,  not far from Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia and from Trieste, Italy.  On the Taste of Slovenia food tour 2013, we will be visiting Lipica and the Stallions on May  21.
